On the Progenitors of AM CVn Stars as LISA Sources: The Evolved Donor Star Channel

چکیده
Abstract The space gravitational wave (GW) detector Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) that is planned to be launched in the early 2030s will detect low-frequency GW signals Galaxy. AM CVn stars were generally thought important sources. Employing MESA code, this work we calculate evolution of a great number binary systems consisting white dwarf (WD) and main sequence (MS) star, diagnose whether their descendant-AM visible with LISA. simulated results show progenitors these LISA sources, within distance 1 kpc, are WD–MS binaries donor star 1.0–1.4 M ? (for initial WD mass 0.5 ) or 1.0–2.0 0.7 ), an orbital period slightly smaller than bifurcation period. Our simulations also indicate 10 verification sources can reproduced by standard magnetic braking model, potential Based on birth rate population synthesis, CVn-LISA evolving from evolved channel kpc estimated (0.6–1.4) × ?6 yr ?1 , predicted about 340–810. Therefore, plays role forming

Cataclysmic Variables with Evolved Secondaries and the Progenitors of AM CVn Stars
We present the results of a systematic study of cataclysmic variables (CVs) and related systems, combining detailed binary-population synthesis (BPS) models with a grid of 120 binary evolution sequences calculated with a Henyey-type stellar evolution code. In these sequences, we used 3 masses for the white dwarf (0.6, 0.8, 1.0M⊙) and seven masses for the donor star in the range of 0.6 − 1.4M⊙. ...
متن کاملAM CVn stars
I review our observational and theoretical knowledge of AM CVn stars, focusing on recent developments. These include newly discovered systems, the possibility that two recently discovered extremely short period objects are AM CVn stars and an update on X-ray, UV an optical studies. Theoretical advances include the study of the details of both the donor and accretor, and the physics of the heliu...
متن کاملThe outburst properties of AM CVn stars
We briefly summarize the observational properties of ultra-compact binaries called AM CVn stars. We analize their outbursts originating from the thermal-viscous instability in helium accretion disc. We present our preliminary results in applying the model of Dwarf Novae outbursts to helium discs. We can calculate models of outbursts of reasonable amplitude of 2 mag with a constant α parameter t...
متن کاملThe new AM CVn star in Hydra
High speed photometry of the new AM CVn star in Hya (previously known as SN2003aw), spectroscopically identified by Chornock & Filippenko, shows it to have a superhump period of 2041.5 ± 0.3 s. We find a range of brightness from V ∼ 16.5 to 20.3, presumably caused by variations in the rate of mass transfer. In the intermediate state the system cycles in brightness with a period of ∼ 16 h and ra...
متن کاملThe long-period AM CVn star SDSSJ155252.48+320150.9
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey has been instrumental in obtaining a homogeneous sample of the rare AM CVn stars: mass-transferring binary white dwarfs. As part of a campaign of spectroscopic follow-up on candidate AM CVn stars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we have obtained time-resolved spectra of the g = 20.2 candidate SDSS J155252.48+320150.9 on the Very Large Telescope of the European Sou...
